What You Will Learn

This course provides you with the theory and practical skills required for collection of viable blood and other body fluids in a clinical setting.

Graduates who receive a Certificate of Performance and attain a minimum of 100 successful blood collections will be eligible to take the international certifying examination PBT(ASCPi) conducted by the American Society for Clinical Pathology.

    By the end of the course, you will be able to:
    1. Demonstrate knowledge of human body systems and its related laboratory tests
    2. Demonstrate knowledge of blood collection equipment, various types of additives used in clinical analysis of blood constituents.
    3. Demonstrate knowledge of infection and safety
    4. Describe the collection of non-blood specimens
    5. Describe the order of draw and pre-analytical variables on blood testing
    6. Describe regulatory guidelines and quality assurance in phlebotomy
    7. Perform blood collection procedures in a safe manner
