Britain’s 5-year-olds now learn computer coding

The Straits Times, 27 Oct 2014 - Last month, England became the first major economy to make computer coding a compulsory subject for children in publicly funded schools from the age of five. Students learn to code using basic animation software that gives them a choice of command phrases. Article mentioned how Singapore is moving in a similar direction with the $2.8 million Robotics and Maker Academy (RMA) initiative. The RMA is a collaboration between the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore and SP. SP staff will train teachers and students from schools in robotics and coding as part of the collaboration.
