28 Sep 2015

The Business Times, 26 Sep 2015 - At the 30th anniversary gala dinner of the Singapore Shipping Association, Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean unveiled plans by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) to attract and advance Singaporeans through careers in the maritime industry. Under the Sectoral Tripartite Committee for Transport (Sea) led by MPA, two task forces have been set up to address current gaps and to recommend initiatives to strengthen manpower development efforts for both seafaring and shore-based sub-sectors. The task forces will draw on the S$115 million Maritime Cluster Fund and tap funding support from the government's SkillsFuture initiative to encourage lifelong learning. For a start, the two taskforces hope to attract more than 1,200 Singaporeans into the sector as maritime seafarers and port-operations officers. SP was mentioned as one of the members of the task force. Similar story was reported in The Straits Times, Lianhe Zaobao, Berita Harian, Channel News Asia and Channel 8.
