MOE asks for patience in review on free parking

13 Jan 2016

The Straits Times, 13 Jan 2016 - The Ministry of Education (MOE) has acknowledged the debate generated by the issue of whether teachers should pay for parking in schools. Local daily The Straits Times received about 25 letters to its Forum pages on the issue, with most calling for parking for teachers to remain free. In a Facebook post yesterday, MOE mentioned that it is aware of the concerns raised by members of the public and will review the carpark policy for schools carefully while bearing in mind civil service guidelines and the recent observations by the Auditor-General’s Office (AGO). Last year, the AGO pointed out in a report that the ITE, SP and TP charged below-market rates for the use of their carparks. Similar story was reported on Channel News Asia, Today and Lianhe Zaobao.
