26 Aug 2014

The Straits Times, 26 Aug 2014 - As part of the Aspire recommendations, the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) will add more places to its more advanced Higher Nitec courses, starting with 100 spots from next year. Most of these extra places will go to the engineering and info- communications technology programmes. Part of the recommendations will also see the five polytechnics reviewing their internship programmes, including possibly extending their duration. SP Diploma in Marine Engineering student, Mr Mong Jun Hao, opined on the six-week internship he spent at engine manufacturer MTU Asia. Jun Hao mentioned how he learned a lot about engines that was related to his course during his internship and felt that a longer internship period will allow him to pick up more knowledge and skills. Article also mentioned how students in NP’s marine and offshore technology programme might see their three-month internship be increased to six-months by 2016.
