Today, 22 Sep 2016 - Article featured SP’s Hotel and Leisure Facilities Management student, Muhammad Asyraf Chumino, who was cited in Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong’s speech at the launch of Northlight School’s new campus at Towner Road. Asyraf had dropped out of school at the age of 10 to care for his mother who was suffering from depression after his father died of cancer, and thought that he would never be able to complete his studies. Three years later, with his mother’s encouragement and support from self-help group Mendaki, Asyraf enrolled in NorthLight School. With support from a dedicated teacher, he went on to become one of the school’s success stories. To date, about 1,400 students have graduated from NorthLight, of which about a third have successfully progressed to various Institute of Technical Education colleges while 14 graduates have gone on to polytechnics. Similar story was reported in The Straits Times, Lianhe Zaobao and Channel News Asia.
