Polytechnics give engineering a new face

The Straits Times, 19 Dec 2013 - Article explores how polys are offer multi-disciplinary ‘hybrid’ courses that combines engineering with business studies, social sciences or life sciences modules in a bid to make engineering ‘fun’ and ‘exciting’. SP student Bryan Lim and Diploma in Engineering Systems (DES) course manager Dr Thian Boon Meng opined on how the DES course appeals to students as it is different from traditional engineering couses. SP students from the DES, bioengineering, chemical engineering and civil engineering with business courses were featured in the article. NP’s deputy principal Mr Mah Wee Beng also opined on how NP’s Engineering with Business Management is well received by students. ‘Hybrid’ courses by NYP and TP were also highlighted.
