Riding on Asia's aviation aftermarket

29 Dec 2014

Business Times, 29 Dec 2014 - Engine-maker Pratt & Whitney is banking on a growing demand from airlines for long-term fleet management services to fuel its growth, especially with its new PurePower engine poised to enter the market by the end of 2015. With an eye on anticipated growth, Pratt & Whitney expects to have to ramp up hiring too. But Singapore's tight labour market is a challenge where talent is concerned, which is why the company has been collaborating with local institutions such as National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University as well as Republic Polytechnic, Temasek Polytechnic, Singapore Polytechnic and some of the ITEs. Pratt & Whitney also has a five-year MOU with Singapore Polytechnic stretching till 2017 which allows students to enrol in an overseas industrial training programme at the engine maker's customer training centre in China. As at 2012, nearly 130 students had taken part and another 300 more will train in China by 2017.
