SP develops the first two-seater solar car in Singapore for competition in Australia next month

Lianhe Zaobao, 30 Sep 2015 - SP’s engineering lecturers and students together with Singapore Power have developed SunSPEC4, the first two-seater solar car in Singapore to compete against 45 other teams from 24 countries in the World Solar Car Challenge in Australia next month. SP’s senior lecturer and SunSPEC4’s team manager, Steven Chew, shared how 20 months of hard work was lost when the original car was damaged in a fire one month ago. With support from their sponsor, Singapore Power, the team rallied and managed to rebuild the car within a month. Singapore Power also announced that they would be sponsoring $1 million for the next five years so that SP could participate in the next two editions of the World Solar Challenge. Singapore Power’s Head of Group Risk Management and SP alumnus Lee Kok Kin opined on the reasons behind Singapore Power’s sponsorship.
