Singapore Polytechnic fire: 3 security guards sent to hospital

ChannelNewsAsia.com, 25 Aug 2015 - Article reported that about 50 students were evacuated by SP security officers after a fire alarm was activated at about 10.30am. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said the fire involved a solar car model, and the fire was put out by SP’s emergency response team. Students who were evacuated in the midst of their exam will retake their paper next week. Affected students will be contacted through SMS, student email and portal on the details of the retest. The SCDF confirmed that three security guards were conveyed by ambulance to National University Hospital as a result of smoke inhalation and the cause of fire is under investigation. A SP spokesperson mentioned that the health and well-being of our staff and students are of top priority and the poly is providing them with the necessary care and support during this period. Upcoming classes and exams remain unaffected by the incident and will proceed as usual. SP students Daren Fong and Sean Lee opined that four classes closer to the Fabrication lab were evacuated and that the cause of the fire has to do with a faulty circuit.
