Stemming a worrying high-tech brain drain

The Straits Times, 16 Nov 2015Article featured the various initiatives and programme by institutes of higher learning and industry partners to enhance the engineering sector’s appeal among youth and help it retain graduates. Photos used in the article featured last weekend’s Engineering Camp organised by SP’s School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering and School of Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering. At the Engineering Camp, O-level students get to discover and appreciate the importance of engineering and to explore career options and prospect in the sector. A series of hands-on activities and games also allowed students to get up close with engineering concepts and principles in a fun way. RP’s Deputy Principal and Chairman of the steering committee for Learning Engineering at Polytechnics mentioned how the various initiatives help students make the link between Stem subjects and real world experiences. A NYP information security student mentioned how some of the initiatives by the various polys have convinced her to take up a Stem course.
