Students honoured at Special Awards for overcoming the odds

Today, 20 August 2014 - 122 students were honoured at the annual Special Awards, which recognises both academic and non-academic achievements. Two SP students were mentioned. Shaun Tan, a second year Mechatronics and Robotics student who struggles with reading disability; dyslexia was recognised for his outstanding academic results and commitment to the community where he took home two awards: The Lee Kuan Yew Scholarship to Encourage Upgrading (LKY-STEP) Award and the Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Book Prize. First year student in Hotel and Leisure facilities management, Muhammad Asyraf Bin Chumino who had dropped out at 10 to care for his widowed mother, but found his way back to school when his mother was better, also received the LKY-STEP Award.
