S’pore Poly, Waseda set up joint biomed lab

30 Nov 2015

The Straits Times, 30 Nov 2015 Singapore Polytechnic (SP) and Waseda University (Waseda), a top research university in Tokyo, have set up a joint biomedical lab with up to 15 local and Japanese researchers. The researchers could work on innovations in cancer detection and treatment for dementia. Currently, the joint research team is developing a new class of biomaterials for a precise drug delivery that is safer than conventional chemotherapy. Researchers will also look into bioimaging developments and modern sequencing technologies to study biological systems. The lab will also benefit the SP’s biomedical science and biotechnology students who will have an opportunity to intern and work alongside the joint research team on projects. Both SP principal Mr Tan Choon Shian and Waseda’s senior executive vice-president for academic affairs and provost Dr Shuji Hashimoto opined on the benefits on the partnership and joint biomedical lab.
