S’poreans splashing out on travel and expensive meals

The Straits Times, 23 Sep 2014 - A survey by the Department of Statistics has found that average monthly household expenditure on dining at restaurants, cafes and pubs has risen massively. A boom in travel spending was also noted in the survey. NP’s senior lecturer in tourism, Dr Michael Chiam, opined that consumers are now better educated and are in a better position to plan their own travel itineraries by looking at reviews on websites.
