Team Singapore newcomers to look out for in the SEA Games

07 Aug 2017

Channel NewsAsia, 6 Aug 2017 - Article featured some of the budding Team Singapore athletes who will be making their debuts in the upcoming SEA Games at Malaysia. SP’s Diploma in Aerospace Electronics first-year student Tan Lucas is a reserve member of the current SEA Games Men’s Table Tennis team. Lucas was part of the 2014 youth side that won the World Cadet Championships in the Team category. He shared his thoughts about representing Singapore in the SEA Games and how training against foreign players at the Singapore Table Tennis Association had helped him improve his game.  Article also featured NP’s second-year student and national sailor Cheryl Teo who deferred her polytechnic studies to October 2018 after having a taste of high-level sailing at the European Championships last May. When Cheryl had to fly to Monaco for sailing then, she had to skip school for two weeks. After returning from the event, she eventually caught up to her schoolwork with the help of her peers in class, but realised that she could not cope with both school work and sailing. She decided to focus on sailing this year so as to gain valuable experience for the SEA Games event as well as qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
