27 Oct 2014

The Straits Times, 25 Oct 2014 - Article reported that a record number of tertiary students are heading overseas for internships and exchange programmes. Article mentioned that nearly 45 per cent of SP’s recent batch of graduates went overseas, up by more than 30 per cent compared to five years ago. At NP and the Singapore Management University, close to nine in 10 students have gone abroad.  A NYP student was also mentioned for going on study and training trips to Chengdu, China and the United States.  RP and TP also reported an increase in number of students going abroad for internship or study trips. RP’s assistant director of student and graduate affairs, Ms Sharonne Tan, noted that students are making use of the variety of overseas programmes and funding schemes that have sprung up to help offset the cost of these programmes, which range in price from several hundred to thousands of dollars. These include the Ministry of Education's Opportunity Fund, which was made available to polytechnics last year.
