Two hundred poly students to get overseas work stints each year

24 Nov 2015

The Straits Times, 24 Nov 2015 - More than 200 poly students will get to go abroad for work stints every year after trade agency International Enterprise (IE) Singapore signed agreements with the five polys to extend overseas internships to their students under the Young Talent Programme (YTP). The YTP was started in 2013 and was originally targeted at university students to prepare them for the global workforce. IE Singapore will fund two-thirds of the cost of the overseas stints for poly students under the programme. In September, 63 poly students joined the pilot run of the YTP. They worked at more than 20 organisations such as Procter & Gamble and their stints lasted three to 22 weeks in countries such as Australia, China and Germany. SP’s Principal Mr Tan Choon Shian opined that the YTP will allow students to go on overseas work stints which will give them valuable exposure to different cultures and new learning environments. NP’s mass communication student Rizqina Mahdzar mentioned how she had to adapt to a different work culture during her six-month stint in Cambodia earlier this year. Similar story was reported in Channel News Asia, The New Paper, Channel 8 and Capital 95.8.
