From waiter to developer

Advertorial featured 27-year-old Chong Jun Wei, who used to wait on tables as he found it difficult to land a job in the information technology (IT) industry because he held a non-IT diploma. To plug this gap, Jun Wei took up a one-year part-time diploma in Web and Programming at SP’s Professional and Adult Continuing Education (PACE) Academy in April last year. He decided to study at SP because of the course’s accreditation. The course aims to help professionals equip themselves with the fundamentals of web development and visual interface design. It has helped Jun Wei secure a position at Websparks, a company partner of SP. He is currently developing functionalities for clients’ websites and is in charge of website maintenance. Jun Wei shared about what he has learnt in the course. (The Straits Times, pB10)
