Article featured SP alumnus Chung Choon Yin, who is a captain with budget airline Scoot. Mr Chung shared that he started his career with the Singapore Airlines (SIA) as an aircraft maintenance engineer and was sponsored by the company to complete his diploma at SP to become a fully qualified engineer. During the course of his work, he had the opportunity to interact with the SIA flight crew, and that piqued his interest in flying the aircraft he was working on. The 64-year-old then took the pilot conversion course and subsequently became a first officer. Mr Chung also shared that his engineering background helped him become a better pilot as he was able to understand any defects in the system better.
