Polytechnics launch new course, students can major in generative artificial intelligence next year

In line with the development trend of artificial intelligence technology, some polytechnics will add a specialisation option in generative artificial intelligence in the new academic year to allow students to deepen their skills in this area. NP launched the Professional Diploma in Data Science in 2021, will be launching two specialisation options, generative artificial intelligence and data engineering, for students studying data science in the 2024 academic year. NP deputy principal and registrar Mah Wee Beng shared that students can major in generative artificial intelligence or data engineering in the second academic year to acquire skills in the growing field of data science. The data science professional diploma course is expected to admit 50 students next year. In recent years, the five local polytechnics have improved their courses in response to market demand, aiming to improve students' employability. Some institutes such as SP and NYP have launched professional diploma courses in artificial intelligence applications and analysis. TP also plans to add generative artificial intelligence content to its design courses. Starting next year, students studying SP's electrical and electronic engineering courses will also be able to focus on "sustainable energy" as a new major in their third year. Currently, students have six majors to choose from.
