Sunny outlook for solar panel recycling

12 Jul 2018

Article highlighted that SP researchers have unveiled a new and greener method of recovering and recycling more than 90 per cent of a solar panel. The new technology allows valuable and useful materials such as silicon wafers, silver, copper and aluminium components, and the glass panel to be recycled, thus reducing the space needed in the landfill. In the next three to five years, the researchers hope to secure funding to set up a fully automated pilot plant that uses the new technology. SP research scientist Thong Ya Xuan shared about the benefits and effects of setting up the pilot plant. (The Straits Times, pB10)
