29 Dec 2023

At next year’s River Hongbao, visitors will be able to purchase a "Teeny Pot" tool kit invented by local university students that incorporates 3D printing technology and local cultural elements. This design was created by five girls in university, four of whom are from NTU and one from SMU. They were one of the four winning teams of the "Mapletree-SCCCI River Hongbao Hackathon 2024". This year’s theme is “Connection, Togetherness, Inclusion”, which encourages the integration of multilingualism and multiculturalism. The 12 finalists presented their business plans to a panel of industry experts on Thursday, 28 December. The other three winning teams are all from TP, and their projects include kitchen utensils designed for the visually impaired, artistic photos with local characteristics and tabletop games. The Hackathon Entrepreneurship Competition is sponsored by Mapletree, and the 2021 winning team, Stick Em, consisted of four students from SP and Eunoia Junior College. They used environmentally friendly materials to design affordable STEM teaching material packages to help cultivate students' creative thinking. Today, the company they founded works with several local primary schools. In 2022, Commenhers, the winning team from SP, established an environmentally friendly design company to turn old denim clothing materials into fashionable products such as handbags.
