What really needs to change for social equality in mass education

08 Apr 2019

Mr R Sinnakaruppan, Chairman of Singapore Education Academy, opined that the new subject-based banding introduced by the Ministry of Education (MOE) will not enhance social equality in education or reduce society’s obsession with grades. He also suggested some changes needed in primary and secondary schools, such as the Mastery Based System (MBS) to personalise learning for each student. Mr R Sinnakaruppan is a two-term Member of Parliament who chaired the Government Parliamentary Committee for Education, and has also served on the boards of SP, Nanyang Technological University, and the Institute of Technical Education.
