Our overall objective is to develop cost-effective glass fibre reinforced silica aerogel (GFSA) and omniphobic silica aerogel (OSA) additives and their applications in the building envelope for sustainable buildings, such as thermal insulative cementitious plaster and paint. The products will be synthesised from solid waste materials. Our goal is that the developed building envelope will demonstrate improved insulating and mechanical properties, excellent hydrophobic and oleophobic properties and good thermal stabilities, all at an affordable price for the construction industry.
