Speaking at a seminar at SP, veteran Japanese astronaut Koichi Wakata said that a future Singaporean astronaut could inspire young people to pursue careers in the space sector and STEM fields. Wakata, who spent more than 504 days in space across five missions, emphasised the educational and talent-development benefits of human spaceflight. His remarks come as Singapore seeks to expand its space ambitions through the newly established National Space Agency of Singapore, which was launched in April 2026 to further develop the country's growing space industry.
