SP Optometry Scrubs Ceremony 2026

On 24 June 2026, our Diploma in Optometry (DOPT) Year 2 students marked a proud milestone at SP's annual Optometry Scrubs Ceremony — donning their scrubs and pledging their commitment to delivering the best eye and vision care to their patients.

Dr Tan Tuan Lin, Senior Director of the School of Chemical and Life Sciences, opened the ceremony by tracing the history of SP's Optometry programme and underscoring the vital role optometrists play in supporting Singapore's ageing population. Ms Adeline Yang, President of the Singapore Optometric Association (SOA) then shared her experiences as a practising optometrist, offering inspiration and encouragement for the journey ahead. Year 3 student Kaitlyn Chan rounded off the sharing session with practical tips and guidance drawn from her own experience as a student optometrist.

The highlight of the ceremony was the donning of the scrubs, presented by the Course Chair.

"Receiving my scrubs made me excited for my clinical practice. But when I wore it, together with excitement was this new feeling of responsibility. That's when reality hit me. Wearing my scrubs was not just being recognised as a student optometrist, but about representing someone whom patients trust in me and my skills to help solve their problems. That made me proud of myself."
