Thirty students from the Diploma in Optometry (DOPT) embarked on an Overseas Study Trip to Kuala Lumpur and Malacca from 8 to 10 June 2026. This marked the third year of the MOE internationalisation initiative for students to gain global perspective of optometry program and practices in other part of the world.
The DOPT students were warmly received by team members from the two universities: Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and Management and Science University (MSU). The visits to the research and teaching facilities, including the Ophthalmology Clinics at MSU Medical Centre, enabled students to gain valuable insights into their field of study. The students also visited Vision Space Sdn Bhd and Eyecon Mahkota Medical Centre where they observed how model optometric practices looks like in hospital and private setting as well as the latest development in digitalisation and embracing Artificial Intelligence (AI) in eye care and myopia management.

This trip also provided us the opportunity to present a certificate of appreciation to our overseas partners in recognition of the valued partnership and strong support & collaboration over the past three years.

"This OST was a truly enriching and memorable experience. Visiting universities such as UKM and MSU, as well as optometric practices like Vision Space Sdn Bhd and Eyecon Mahkota Medical Centre, gave me valuable insights into the different approaches to optometry education and clinical practice. I was especially honoured to have the opportunity to share my experiences from the past three years at SP with the students at UKM. Exchanging ideas and learning from one another reminded me of how much I have grown, both academically and personally, throughout my journey in optometry. This trip broadened my perspectives, strengthened my appreciation for the profession, and inspired me to continue learning and building meaningful connections within the optometry community."
