SP Optometry Students Serving the Community

On 17 January 2026, our Diploma in Optometry (DOPT) students participated in an outreach event: Migrant Health Matters, a community initiative held in collaboration with Rotary Club. The event focused on supporting the eye care needs of migrant workers in Singapore, a group that may face barriers to accessing regular healthcare services.

Our students conducted eye examinations and actively dispensed spectacles to those in need. Through patient interaction and practical application of their clinical skills, they gained valuable real-world experience while making a tangible difference in the lives of participants. A current Year 2 student, Kaitlyn Chan, shared: “The Migrant Health event strengthened my commitment to community outreach. The experience reinforced the importance of teamwork, empathy, and accessible eye care."

Working alongside Rotary partners, our students contributed meaningfully to a collective effort to promote inclusive healthcare in Singapore.

Following this, on 7 February 2026, our students extended their outreach efforts to Health Fest 2026, held at Abdul Gafoor Mosque. The event aimed to raise awareness about the importance of regular eye examinations across all age groups.

During the event, our students engaged with families, elderly residents, and youth, educating them on common eye conditions, preventive care, and the significance of early detection. Emphasis was placed on how routine eye examinations can help identify vision problems, manage chronic conditions such as diabetes-related eye issues, and maintain quality of life.

Through interactive engagement and public education, our students played a key role in empowering the community with knowledge about lifelong eye health.
