SP Optometry Students Showcase Caregiver Initiative at South West Community Inno Lab Symposium

On 19 May 2026, ten students from the Diploma in Optometry (DOPT) course represented the School of Chemical & Life Sciences (CLS) at the South West Community Inno Lab Symposium, held at the Singapore University of Technology and Design. The students presented a poster on their Community Caregiver’s Day initiative, which highlights the importance of timely eye examinations through vision screening and appropriate referral pathways for medical eye care needs. In recognition of their efforts, the team received a Certificate of Appreciation.

The symposium was organised to support and recognise initiatives by Institutes of Higher Learning that contribute to the South West community. The event was graced by Mr Desmond Lee, Minister of Education and Minister-in-Charge of Social Services Integration, and Ms Low Yen Ling, Senior Minister of State for Culture, Community and Youth and Mayor of the South West District. It brought together student teams to showcase innovative solutions addressing social and community challenges.
