My heartiest congratulations to the Singapore Polytechnic Class of 2017!
Today marks the successful completion of your journey in Singapore's first polytechnic. After this ceremony, you will be a member of SP’s 190,000-strong alumni. This is a significant milestone and opportunity in your life when you can make an impact on our society.
Although the times ahead may be challenging, I am confident that you will be able to ride out the storm with the holistic education we have offered you. The industry-relevant skills, global mind-set and good values that you have acquired during your time with SP will give you a head start in life.
I would also like to encourage all of you to adopt learning as a lifelong commitment. Whether you are stepping into the corporate world or pursuing further studies, do not stop seeking knowledge and skills so that you can achieve mastery in your own field and be future-ready.
Last but not least, always remember to give back to the community wherever possible. Do not forget the people who came before you and laid the foundation for you to thrive. At the same time, do not forsake those after you who may need help to move on with life. You can play a vital role in not only shaping our economy but also in how our society regards and respects one another. This way, we can collectively build a happy and liveable home for future generations.
