10 officers honoured for serving with a big heart

The Straits Times, 24 May 2014 - SP’s Organisation Development Director, Mr Arthur Poh was one of 10 public service officers who received the prestigious Distinguished Star Service Award at the annual Excellence in Public Service Awards. Mr Poh was given the award for going the extra mile to assist a visually impaired student Chia Hong Sen, while he was serving a two-year stint at the Ministry of Education. Hong Sen had originally applied to study engineering at TP, however the polytechnic was worried about his safety and raised his case with the Ministry. Together with TP’s management, the Singapore Association of the Visually Handicapped and a visually impaired scientist from A*Star, Mr Poh persuaded Hong Sen to study IT and worked with the poly to provide their first visually impaired student with the necessary resources to succeed in his studies.
