MRT started operations on 12 March 1988

Lianhe Zaobao - zbWeekend, 8 Jun 2015 - In this series commemorating SG50, Zaobao runs 50 stories related to the development of Singapore. This week’s story focused on the history of MRT which started operations on 12 March 1988. Former Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew officiated the opening ceremony of MRT at Raffles City.  There were many other celebrations in neighbourhoods such as Tiong Bahru, Leng Kee, Queenstown and Clementi. SP put up an eye-catching billboard at its campus welcoming the arrival of the MRT.
