Maritime courses receive additional investment of 15 million dollars

Lianhe Zaobao, 26 Jun 2015 - In April, the Maritime & Port Authority of Singapore along with the Employment and Employability Institute and the Singapore Workforce Development Agency announced that 15 million dollars will be invested to train local seafarers. This announcement was repeated during the Day of the Seafarer yesterday, where awards were also given out to 29 outstanding young seafarers. SP’s Diploma in Marine Engineering (DMR) Course Chair, Joseph Lee, stated that the Certificate of Competency (CoC) will be incorporated into the DMR course next year. The final year internship will also be extended from six weeks to half a year so that students can accumulate more experience. SP’s Diploma in Maritime Engineering graduate, Phey Song Wei, opined on the benefits of this initiative.
