Interview with SP lecturer Muhd Najdi

20 Jul 2023

SP lecturer for experience and product design Muhd Najdi shared in this feature how claw machines entice players with the low costs to win, as well as external design elements that call out to players. He explained the near miss theory, where one is motivated to continue playing, when they deem themselves close to winning. This is because humans have the tendency to seek closure, and will return to play again and again, until they win. In claw machines, the reward is also immediate, and not objective driven, like other arcade games.
