Keep an open mind and travel: National Youth Council encourages more youth to explore South-east Asia

10 Jun 2023

Article reported that trips for youth to countries in the region resumed in 2022 as borders reopened, and the National Youth Council (NYC) is encouraging more young people to take the opportunity to travel.  These travel opportunities to South-east Asia, China and India are available through various NYC-supported trips, like the Asia-Ready Exposure Programme and other exchange programmes. Most of these opportunities are the result of NYC’s tie-ups with institutes of higher learning, with SP being the latest to sign a three-year partnership in March 2023. The council’s first tie-up was with TP in 2021. NYC chief executive David Chua shared that it is initiating talks with more polytechnics and exploring opportunities with the ITE. These efforts dovetail with the Education Ministry’s aim to bolster students’ cross-cultural understanding of Asia. In December 2022, SP Diploma in Information Technology student Tan Tianbao went to Chiang Mai, Thailand, as part of a team project to improve the quality of education for pre-schoolers.
