InnovateFest2023, jointly organised by Dell Technologies and the Movement for the Intellectually Disabled of Singapore (MINDS), tasked contestants to develop lifestyle solutions for the disabled using technology. The winning team of the Polytechnic Category consists of five students from SP. The group designed an app, named “SportyBuddies” to match people with intellectual disabilities based on the physical activities they are interested in, giving them the chance to meet new people. The team, made up of students Wong Du Yuan, Asha Mathyalakan, Abirami Baskaran, Tileron Levi Jan Lacang, and Tan Ming Yao Abel, also used augmented reality technology and recorded teaching videos to allow people with intellectual disabilities to learn football, badminton, basketball, dance, and fitness at home. Abirami shared that augmented reality provides users with a three-dimensional character image that can be demonstrated live, which is a more interactive way for users to touch and watch it move.
