10 years of overseas community service by SP Optometry students and staff

30 Oct 2019

Students and staff from Singapore Polytechnic’s Optometry (DOPT) course have been making the annual Youth Expedition Project (YEP) trips, aiming to provide free eye screenings for people who do not have access to proper eye care services. This year marks the tenth year of CLS's participation.  A team of 22 DOPT students and two staff members was in Da Lat, Vietnam from 15 to 27 September 2019.

Over eight days, vision screening was conducted at two provinces: Don Duong and Duc Trong, for residents of different ages, ranging from children as young as four years old to adults as old as 80 years old.  The team screened an estimated 3000 locals and managed to dispense approximately 1800 pairs of glasses. The team felt that it was a very good learning journey as well as a joy to help improve the vision of so many.
