PolyU Innovation and Entrepreneurship Global Student Challenge

09 Jul 2015

From 20 to 26 June 2015, we went to Hong Kong to compete in the semi-final competition of the PolyU Innovation and Entrepreneurship Global Student Challenge. This competition was organised by The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, where 54 university teams from various countries all over the world come together to compete against each other. We are proud to have achieved the theme award for Corporate Social Responsibility/Social Enterprise beating the other university teams from around the world.

With the money won, we are now able to get a start up on our business idea which we had developed from our Overseas Social Innovation Project (OSIP), Learning Express trip in Cagayan De Oro, Philippines. We visited the village of Iponan during the September of 2014. There, we conducted empathy studies and lived with the community to understand the issues they are facing. We were treated with indescribable hospitality and learnt of the troubles and problems that the villagers faced. By gaining understanding through in-context immersion, our team came up with a solution that could potentially help the women alleviate themselves and their communities out of poverty.
