SP MasterChef

22 Jun 2014

So you’re a fan of the MasterChef series. Our very own SP MasterChef competition was held on 18 June 2014.  Twelve food bloggers from SP, various secondary schools and universities competed to produce an appetiser, a main meal and a dessert all within 90 minutes. Included among the ingredients were healthy commercial products that had been created by past students from the Diploma in Food Science & Technology course. Talk about marrying food science with culinary skills!

The winning entry was a meal comprising an appetiser of bangers & mash with caramelised onions using SP-created low fat & low salt sausages, a Mexican-inspired Yamie Rice burrito as the main dish and a refreshing “Lemonsi Delight-shake” to revive the palate at the end of the meal. Would you believe that this meal was created by two boys from School of Science & Technology, Singapore (SST), Matthew Yap and Wang Yi Chieh! Judge Martyn Wong had this to say, “I was impressed by the broad knowledge of food and ‘chef-like’ culinary techniques displayed by Matthew and Yi Chieh during the competition, given their relatively younger age. I loved their dessert, a lemon milkshake concocted using Lemonsi Delight, resulting in a beautiful, simple dessert drink with a creamy-citrusy taste, texturally contrasted with a crunchy chocolate honeycomb wafer.” The SST boys are in the right place to showcase their ability - where food meets science!
