Biomedical Science graduate entering to NUS Medicine

Congrats to our Diploma in Biomedical Science (DBS) graduate Isabel Lim!

Come August 2020, Isabel will be matriculating into NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine to pursue her dream of becoming a doctor!

With six points for her ‘O’ Levels, Isabel had plenty of options but stuck to DBS as her first choice. She had always wanted to enter the healthcare industry and Biology was always the Ngee Ann Secondary alumna’s pet subject.

Isabel shares how the SP hands-on curriculum and industry based learning helped her. “The lab sessions in DBS allowed me to gain useful practical skills. In our microbiology module, we even got to grow our own cell cultures and cultivate bacteria. These hands-on lessons also helped me understand the theory concepts better.

Isabel also spent 9 months working on her Final Year Project with A*STAR Singapore Immunology Network (SIgN). The industry exposure gave her a deeper appreciation of the hard work that researchers do and a clearer understanding of the medical research scene.

Like most students, Isabel initially felt that entering medicine school is just a farfetched dream. But the unexpected demise of a sibling motivated her to work harder to achieve her dreams. It made me realise how precious our life can be and how health will always be the most important... I wanted to be a doctor to save lives, so that not everyone will have to go through a similar loss.

This is just the beginning of her journey, and we wish her all the best in her future endeavours!
