Biotechnology graduate entering NUS Dentistry

Congratulations to Justin Gau, our Diploma in Biotechnology (DBT) Class of 2021 graduate (now offered as a specialisation in the Diploma in Biomedical Science).

 Justin has always had a passion for dentistry from a young age. As a kid, he loved visiting dental clinics as he was intrigued with the different tools used and amazed at the immediate difference felt after a dental treatment.

Despite not doing well in his ‘A’ levels, he was not ready to give up on his dreams of being a dentist. He enrolled into SP’s DBT as he felt that it was closely related to the healthcare industry.

 Justin shared that SP’s curriculum definitely helped him in various ways; “I especially enjoyed the components of the final-year-project despite it being very tough. It gave me a chance to be independent. I gained useful skills such as following instructions properly and having an eye for detail. I think that this played a part in helping me pass the manual dexterity test, an entry requirement for dentistry.”

Justin’s parting words to his juniors were “press on despite tough challenges” and “remind ourselves that anything is possible if we put in the effort”.
