SP Optometry student initiates vision screening at Heartbeat@Bedok

02 Feb 2024

On January 28, 2024, 25 students and 2 staff from the SP Diploma in Optometry (DOPT) conducted a vision screening for approximately 190 residents living in Bedok. The ‘I (Eye) Care Vision Screening’ was initiated by Ng Bao Yi, a Year 3 DOPT student, in collaboration with East Coast GRC.

Baoyi shared that this project aimed to empower individuals with knowledge about eye health and foster a community that not only understands the risks but takes proactive measures to safeguard their vision. The students and staff also set up a booth to educate the residents about common eye conditions such as cataract, glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy, which is a disease of the eye caused by poorly controlled diabetes.
