The students from the Diploma in Integrated Events and Project Management (DEPM) went on a site visit to the Singapore Gifts Show at the Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre on 9 July 2014. The site visit was part of the teaching plan for the year two students for the academic year 2014/2015, where it covers various aspects of the modules that they were taking during the first semester.

Relating to the Public Relations module, students were exposed to sourcing for suitable corporate hospitality and media bag gifts. They also looked particularly at how the event utilised social media tools to garner more interest to the event.

The students were also required to source, evaluate and recommend suitable gifts for the conference speakers of their proposed event and to obtain relevant information from at least three different suppliers for their module in Project Management.

They were asked to observe how to reduce or recycle waste e.g. lanyards, brochures – where participants were encouraged to drop the used items into a recycling bin located at the exit of the Hall. This is with reference to the Environmental Safety & Health module.

They also had to apply their risk management skills and knowledge based on their observations at the event. They were required to take photographs to identify hazards and produce these evidence as part of their presentation for the Logistics & Site Operations module.

The respective module lecturers were on-site to answer any student queries pertaining to the module requirement. Students felt that it was a fruitful and enriching experience where they were given an overall macro event perspective.
