Multiple Prizes won by DCEB & DEWT student teams in Greenwave Competition 2016

Greenwave competition is an annual national competition which is organised by Sembcorp Marine. The competition encourages students to address a broad spectrum of environmental issues through their projects. In the 14th edition, the competition expanded to attract 279 projects from about 930 students from primary to tertiary institutions, including international tertiary institutions from ASEAN countries. A total of 59 awards were given out at the Green Wave Environmental Care Competition 2016 awards presentation ceremony on Thursday 23 Feb 2017 with no awards given to 1st and 2nd prize winners. Of the 16 awards given to tertiary students from polytechnics and the universities, ABE secured the most (DCEB& DEWT student teams secured 6 or 38% of the awards).
Multiple prizes (6 awards) for SP teams were exclusively secured by 3 teams from ABE (DCEB& DEWT) consisting of one DCEB team and two DEWT teams with details below :
1. DCEB students (Shwe Yi Phyoe, Wayne Yip Bi Heng, Liaw Jian Wei, Jeff, Ng Jia Hao): “Green Asphalt for Flexible Pavement “ was awarded the Commendation Award of S$500. In addition Yi Phoe was awarded the Good Presenter Award of S$200. Project Supervisor: Dr Handojo Djati Utomo; Co- Supervisor (Samwoh): Mr Moe Aung Lwin
2. DEWT student (Daniel Choong Zhi Yi, Ong Jie Jun): “MFC Development for Bioelectricity Generation from Sewage Sludge “ was awarded an Encouragement Award of S$200. In addition Daniel was awarded the Good Presenter Award of S$200. Project Supervisor: Dr Handojo Djati Utomo and Co- Supervisor (NTU): Dr Sivalingam SP
3. DEWT student (Donovan Tan Keng Xuan, Yu Jiajia): “Heavy Metal Scavenger of Dried Algae in Surface Water“ was awarded an Encouragement Award of S$200. In addition Donovan was awarded the Good Presenter Award of S$200. Project Supervisor: Dr Handojo Djati Utomo
Speaking at the award presentation ceremony, Guest of Honour, Mr. Ng Chee Meng, Minister for Education (Schools) and Second Minister for Transport commented on the strong understanding of sustainability among the students.
