Study Trip to Taman Negara from 24th - 27th Sept 2013

08 Jan 2014

This Mid-Semester break, 20 DLA Year 1 & 2 students embarked in an unforgettable, mind-blowing experience to the depths of Taman Negara, Pahang, Malaysia to explore the richness of the million-year-old forest.

The students were exposed to night trekking on the 1st day and discovered numerous rare species such as glow in dark mushrooms and many other faunas. Here, they learnt the framework of the forest eco-system and gain tremendous confidence skills trekking without light.

The following day, the students continued their trek into the jungle where they explored various flora and fauna, learnt native plants identification & characteristics with a finale of hiking 344m up to Bukit Terisek.

Students went through more confidence building skills by attempting a 500m long, 45m high suspended canopy walk where they learnt the effect of tropical rainforest.

This was followed by a visit to Orang Asli village where students learnt how the indigenous people hunt, make fire and their culture.

The finale of the trip was an exploration trip into a cave. In the cave, students learnt to navigate through numerous tunnels and holes into the depths of the cave. Students were given a chance to understand how crystals were formed.

At the end of the trip, students bonded through games and enjoyed themselves. Many wished that they can come back again next year.
