TAITRA MICE Destination Marketing Contest 2017

29 Sep 2017

A group of 6 students from the course of Diploma in Integrated Events and Project Management recently took part in the annual TAITRA MICE Destination Marketing Contest held from 19th to 21st September 2017 at the Taiwan International Convention Center, Taiwan. This year’s contest was slightly tougher as the team needed to submit a qualifying proposal and a short video before being invited to take part in the finals to be held in Taipei, Taiwan.

In the finals, Team SPark, comprising of Year 2 students, Cheong Zu Yuan, Ivan Boey, Ting Wai Yin, and Year 3 students Lyselle Yap, K Anusha and Chua Meifang did well enough to win 2nd prize in the “English Marketing Presentation” and 3rd Prize in “Exhibition Marketing Award” from a selection of 17 finalists, of which, Singapore Polytechnic was the only team that was not an university.

The teams came from all over Asia, such as China, Taiwan, Malaysia, India and Vietnam. Our team did well enough to impress the judges with our theme; “Think MICE, Think Singapore”.

However, as much as the team trained hard, we played hard as well. Just one day before, they got to visit Taipei’s “must-go” tourist spots to learn more about their culture and busk in the activities that the venues provided. They visited the famous “Jiu-fen” Old Street Market, “Shi-Fen” Old Street to release Sky Lanterns and “Ximending” to immerse in the youth culture.

As Team Captain Lyselle Yap put it across; “The contest was definitely a fruitful and enriching experience. It was worth all our late nights, sweat and tears. To represent Singapore Polytechnic, and even Singapore, was such an honour, and we are glad we didn’t let them down. On a side note, it was also an incredible opportunity to meet people of different countries and from all walks of life.”
