DLA at Singapore Landscape Architecture Awards 2022

The Singapore Institute of Landscape Architects (SILA) organized the Singapore Landscape Architecture Awards (SLAA) 2022 on 12 Dec 2022. This is the thirteen edition of awards for landscape architects organized by SILA.

“The awards celebrate the outstanding efforts of landscape architects and their continuous pursuits in raising the benchmarks of design excellence, research and innovation. The awards also affirm professional resilience, where unexpected disruptions and unanticipated challenges further reinforced the passion and depth of design explorations towards more sensitive, meaningful, and sustainable design solutions.”

Teaching staff from Diploma in Landscape Architecture (DLA) joined the celebrations to congratulate the participants of the awards. The dinner event has always been a good gathering for staff with professionals from the Landscape Architecture profession, with DLA Alumni amongst them.

Matthew (third from left) was part of the project team in Ramboll Studio Dreiseitl who worked on Jurong Lake Gardens that received the Outstanding Award of Excellence in the category: Parks and Recreational. This award was presented by Mr Tan Kiat How (fourth from left), Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Communications and Information & Ministry of National Development.

Flanked by colleague and director from Ramboll Studio Dreiseitl, Matthew (second from right) received the Merit Award on behalf of the project team that worked on Meyer House in the category: Residential. The award was presented by Dr Leong Chee Chiew (extreme left), Commissioner of Parks and Recreation and Executive Director, NParks.

After completing DLA in 2013, Matthew George Bheem completed his bachelor degree from Lincoln University, New Zealand. He is now a Senior Landscape Architect with Ramboll Studio Dreiseitl.

Jade Chin who currently works in Grant Associates as a Senior Landscape Architect was also an award recipient in SLAA 2022. Upon achieving her diploma with DLA in 2013, she worked a few years before embarking on her studies in a bachelor degree in RMIT, Australia.

With the recent launch of Bachelor of Landscape Architecture (BLA) in National University of Singapore (NUS) in 2020, students who complete DLA are able to apply for the bachelor degree with advance placement. DLA looks forward to congratulating DLA Alumni from the first cohort of BLA, NUS who will be graduating in 2023.

When asked to give words of encouragement to their DLA juniors about the LA professional practice:
