A Spanish Learning Experience

14 Jul 2015

Three students from the Diploma in Perfumery & Cosmetic Science (DPCS) are currently attached to an international fragrance company, Chemarome under the year-long internship programme. The Spanish company specialises in the design, development and manufacturing of fragrance compositions. A substantial of their business is covered in the Southeast Asia and the Middle East.

Via an overseas posting from May to June 2015 to Chemorone’s state-of-the art R&D center in Barcelona, students went experienced the various stages of fragrance creation, starting from olfactive appreciation of the fragrance ingredients to grasping the fragrance compounding and evaluation techniques. Particularly impressive at the center was the wide range of equipment and huge palette of fragrance materials (over 2000) that were made available. Under the mentorship of a very experienced perfumer, students also worked on projects that were industry-linked.

It wasn’t all work though, and our students also had the opportunity to visit Barcelona’s tourist attractions such as La Sagrada Familia and Parc Guell and same all manner of Spanish culinary delights.
