User research insights to novel cosmetic skincare design

30 Jul 2014

Four final year Diploma in Perfumery and Cosmetic Science (DPCS) students received the inaugural Johnson & Johnson (J&J) Student Competition award from Dr CJ Loy, Research Associate Director of R&D, in the presence of Deputy Director, Dr Voon Yun Wah. This flagship collaboration with J&J gave our students a platform to display their creativity and enthusiasm in generating innovative ideas/technologies for consumer skincare applications.

Over a three-month period, students were tasked to translate research insights of user needs into a novel cosmetic skincare design that can improve facial skin tone appearance with excellent user experience. Design Thinking framework was adopted. This learning experience provided them great opportunities to unleash their creative potential, allowing them to gain meaningful insights into the development process. The winning team was unanimously selected and the judging panel was particularly impressed by the high quality of the work produced as well as the innovative ideas presented. For the next batch of DPCS students, this will be something to look forward to in 2016.
