Lianhe Zaobao, 29 July 2021 - Article featured SP alumni Bryan Tan Guang  Jun (Diploma in Chemical Engineering, Class of 2019) and Nadiah binte Mohamad Azman (Diploma in Applied Chemistry, Class of 2021) who received the Singapore Industry Scholarship (SgIS) this year alongside 160 other scholars.

To help ease his mother’s financial burden, Bryan had to take on four part-time jobs while he was studying at ITE and SP but he kept up with his schoolwork and eventually made it to NUS with his excellent results. He will be reading chemical engineering at NUS and will join South32, an international mining company, upon graduation.

Nadiah was determined to join the biomedical and pharmaceuticals industry since young because she witnessed how her mother was able to have a good quality of life despite being diagnosed with terminal illness with the support of medical drugs. She decided to apply for SgIS after completing her internship with GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) while she was studying applied chemistry at SP. She has been offered the opportunity to read Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and Biological Chemistry at NTU and will be joining GSK after she graduates.
